Repairs to decorative surfaces such as marquetry are a regular restoration requirement in our workshop. The changes in atmospheric conditions cause timber to move in various and opposing directions and marquetry and inlay often suffer from the extremes of expansion and contraction.
Marquetry can be cut from either wood or metal as well as many other special materials such as ivory or mother of pearl. Using traditional hand tools we are able to cut new marquetry if losses have occurred or simply repair the loose or lifting areas as required.
We have an extensive stock of exotic timbers from which marquetry is often cut to provide the outstanding contrasts possible when laid as one surface design.
